Ecstatic Dance Guidelines
Ecstatic Dance is held as a safe and intentional container for radical self-exploration, emotional release, devotional expression, and the cultivation of authentic human connection. These guidelines exist to support a respectful, embodied, and welcoming experience for everyone.
Whether you are dancing alone or with others, please keep the following in mind:
- Move however you wish, while remaining aware of your own space and the space of others.
- Respect yourself and one another at all times.
- Please refrain from talking on the dance floor. Conversations are welcome in the vendors/social area.
- Respect sensitivities by refraining from photos, video recording, perfumes, fragrances, or smoke.
- Ecstatic Dance is a no shoes, no alcohol, no smoking environment and is drug-free.
- Ecstatic Dance is contact-friendly, but everyone has different boundaries and comfort levels that may change from moment to moment. Some people prefer to dance alone, while others enjoy shared movement.
When engaging another dancer, use sensitivity and awareness. Notice where they are at. Are they open to connection or sharing space? You may gently mirror movements, offer a hand, a brief brush-by, or eye contact, and then feel how they respond. Let consent be expressed through presence rather than words.
If you prefer not to dance with someone, or if you are ending a shared dance, a simple and respectful way to communicate this is by bringing your hands together at your heart in a prayer position with a gentle Namaste gesture.
If you find yourself feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure, slow down. Step out of your thoughts and into sensation. Feel your breath, your body, and let the dance arise from a place of inner stillness. All genuine connection flows from the inside out.
If you have any concerns, questions, or feedback at any point during the event, please approach one of the facilitators. We are here to support you.
Thank you for helping co-create a safe, conscious, and inspiring dance space.
